Parents Keep Children
Away From School In Protest
Some 170 students of a local school in Santo
Domingo de Heredia are being kept home by
the parents who are protesting to have the
principal and a teacher return to the
school.
The principal and teacher of the Félix
Arcadio Montero school were fired in 2008
after a student at the school was injured in
a horse accident while touring the Panaca
recreational centre in Orotina.
However, the parents say that the accident
was not the fault of the school staff, but
that of Panaca personnel.
Altough some students attended classes in
the past week, the majority of the students
at the school have been kept home by parents
until the ministerio de Educación Pública (MEP)
reinstate the two.
MEP officials would not comment on the
situation.
