Higher Gasoline Prices Today

If you didn't fill your gas tank last night or have been out of the news in the last couple of days, you are in for a surprise this morning, as gasoline prices went up at the stroke of midnight.

The price of a litre of super gasoline jumped a whopping ¢39 colones, ¢26 for regular and ¢40 for diesel.

Natural compressed gas, kerosene and jet fuel also increase on Wednesday.

The Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Público (Aresep) approved the latest increase, citing the price of crude oil on international markets and the drop in the colon exchange rate against the US dollar.

This will be the first increase of 2010.

Good news, however, Recope - the state refinery - said priced are expected to come down next month.
