Bolivia Watchful for
File Declassification
LA PAZ - Expectations in Bolivia keep
increasing Tuesday with the announcement
that the government has allowed
declassifying military files linked to
dictatorships.
According to attorney Milton Mendoza, he
will go to the Miraflores General
Headquarters to access those documents, and
facilitate investigations on possible
location of the bodies of socialist leaders,
killed during the military coups.
Mendoza told Prensa Latina the
declassification could reveal the location
of the bodies of Marcelo Quiroga Santa Cruz,
Carlos Flores Bedregal and Renato Ticona,
among many other leftist leaders, killed
during the de facto government of Luis
Garcia Meza, from 1980 to 1981.
The Public Ministry intends to identify the
places where the bodies of at least 156
missing people could be.
Defense Minister Ruben Saavedra announced on
Monday that the Armed Forces would allow
Mendoza accessing the military files for
their declassification and later analysis.
"The government has the democratic
willingness of disclosing information, and
one of those steps is allowing access to the
Armed Force data, as all required procedures
has been accomplished," he said. |
