Chinchilla Says Her Cabinet Will Have Her
Own Personal Stamp On It
President-elect, Laura Chinchilla, says she
has begun the task of selecting her cabinet
members, a task she says she is taking
seriously, though nothing like losing sleep
over it.
Doña Laura admits that names and faces have
been playing in her head and has been
talking to president Arias, who she says has
been extremely respectful given the dearness
and affection he has for all his ministers
and public institution heads.
However, for the time being, doña Laura is
being tight lipped on who she might or might
not pick to form her government on May 8,
saying only that the new government makeup
will have her own personal stamp on it.
Of course the speculation has begun. Anyone
seen near doña Laura is speculated as being
part of her government, although she is flat
out refusing to feed the media frenzy to
know something, anything, of anyone who
might be up for a key job like that of the
ministerio de la Presidencia, Seguridad,
Transportes and of course institutions like
ICE.
On Wednesday, doña Laura met with
legislators-elect Victor Granados and
Joaquín Porras and current legislator, Óscar
López, of the PASE party that promotes
rights of the disabled. The two hour meeting
at the Grano de Oro ended in the welcome of
proposals by the PASE with respect to
disabled goverment employees that make up 5%
of all public employees and to promote a
program to implement pensions at 57 years of
age.
As to the announcement of the new us$9
million crime fighting cameras, doña Laura
praised the efforts of the current security
minister, saying the program will be part of
her security plan.
