UTC Doctors Teach Guatemalan Counterparts About Sports Injuries By Webcam

(AP) — Educators and doctors at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga are using webcam videoconferences to teach Guatemalan physicians how to treat sports injuries.

Paul Newman, director of sports performance for Ohio-based Athletes in Action, told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the UTC initiative is the first of its kind for the faith-based sports ministry.

Gary Wilkerson, research coordinator for the Athletic Training Education program at UTC, said medical care in Guatemala is good, but there's not a lot of knowledge about sports medicine.

Local doctors in Tennessee offer one-hour monthly conferences on issues like concussions and Jones fractures.
