Bartending
Championship Underway
Fourteen Costa Rican bartenders are taking
part in the Campeonato de Baristas Costa
Rica, 2010, that began yesterday at the
Centro Nacional de Cultura, CENAC. The
competition will continue today, with
finalists to be chosen on Saturday.
The competitors are: María Estela Vindas
Porras and Yorleny Calderón de la Asociación
de Asociación de Productores Agropecuarios
de Acosta y Aserrí, ASOPROAA; Manuel Dinarte
de Café del Barista, Tres Ríos; José Solis
de Coopedota, R. L.; Melina Fallas Solís of
the Coopedota, R. L.; Angely Chanto Solís of
the Coopedota, R. L.; Victor Fabián Brenes
Fallas of the Coopedota, R. L.; Auren Chacon
de Coopedota, R. L. (actual national champ);
Cesar Garmendia of the Épocas Café & Rock,
Alajuela; Alexander Cerdas of the Il Panino,
Escazú; Juan González of the Il Panino;
Ricardo Cartín, Barista Independiente, Santa
Ana andy Albert Sanchez Gamboa of the Café
Rey, San Francisco de Dos Ríos.
The judges of the competition are: Ronald
González of the Cafetería Cappuccino del
Este; Arturo Ramos of Electrofrío; Natalia
Vargas of the Café Tres Generaciones; Paula
Chaverri, Barista of the Kaffe Kultur;
Gineth Bolaños of the Cafetería; William
Rojas of the Coopedota, R. L.; and, Ricardo
Quesada of the Masterpac; and freelance
bartenders, Roberto Molina; Lorena Cerdas;
Laura Fallas; José García; Mauricio Pérez
andy Gabriela Vásquez.
The competition will close with a concert by
Son de Tikizia, Pato Barraza and Bernal
Villegas. As well, those attending the
competition will be able to sample coffee
from the different companies represented.
The winner of the Campeonato de Baristas
Costa Rica, 2010, will represent Costa Rica
in the international championship to be held
in London, England, On June 23 to 25.
