Honduras' Ousted
President Leaves Brazilian Embassy
TEGCIGALPA - Honduras' ousted President
Manuel Zelaya left on Wednesday the
Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa, where he
had taken refuge since Sept. 21, 2009.
Zelaya left the embassy accompanied by
Honduran new President Porfirio Lobo and
some 20 vehicles, for the airport, where he
will travel to Dominican Republic to stay as
a "special guest."
Recently, Lobo and Dominican President
Leonel Fernandez signed an agreement to give
Zelaya a safeguard to guarantee him leaving
the Brazilian embassy.
Meanwhile, hundreds of followers of Zelaya
gathered on Wednesday morning near the
Toncontin airport of Tegucigalpa to say
good-bye before his departure for the
Dominican Republic.
Zelaya is traveling to Dominica accompanied
by his family and close collaborators.
Zelaya was ousted on June 28, 2009, and
taken by force to Costa Rica, and since then
he attempted several times to return to
Honduras, till he finally achieve it on
Sept. 21. He had been staying at the
Brazilian embassy ever since.
