More than 3,500 People Evacuated in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR - At least 3,561 people remain evacuated in El Salvador by rains associated with Tropical Storm Alex, which left hundreds of damaged homes and areas with threats of landslides and mudslides.

According to Civil Protection authorities, there are 43 centers fitted out to house the homeless, who continue arriving at evacuation sites, although the government downgraded the alert orange to green after the decrease in rainfall.

Heavy rains allowed the country to collect 93 thousand millimetres of water until June of this year, a record figure since the 1970s.

Rains also caused three deaths, one missing, 53 landslides in 22 municipalities, two damaged bridges and flooded 25 communities.

The Ministry of Social Inclusion distributes food and shelter to the evacuated families, for whose attention the government's target 42,566,000 of the funding for weather emergency.

Given the normalization of weather conditions, classes resumed on Wednesday throughout the country.
