San José - Caldera To Re-Open In Five Days. Maybe.

Although earlier this week the minsitro de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT),Francisco Jimenez, hinted that the 11 kilometres of the San José - Caldera could re-open by this weekend, the MOPT has put off the decision waiting for a new report this coming Tuesday.

Engineers and experts of the Consejo Nacional de Concesiones say that the necessary measures to ensure user safety on the Orotina - Atenas stretch of the road are not complete.

The director pf the Comité fiscalizador del MOPT, Edwin Rodríguez, said that a new inspection date was scheduled before the road could be re-opened.

Minister Jimenez said earlier this week that progress had been made and that the possibility of re-opening the highway for the mid-year vacation were good but would not compromise safety.

The delays in work are being blamed on the rain of the past week and the delay in the purchase of materials necessary to perform the work.

If all goes well, the highway could be open in its entirety by the middle of next week.
