6% Of Students
in Costa Rica
Desert School At
Mid-Year
Desertion
following the
mid-year
vacation is
common according
to the
Ministerio de
Educación
Pública (MEP),
when six out of
every hundred
students (6%) do
not go back to
school after the
two week
vacation.
Leonardo Garnier,
the minister of
public
education,
admits that the
biggest
challenge is the
fight against
the motivation
of parents to
their children.
As such, the
minister is
asking both the
parents and
students, to
never give up.
In an effor to
combat the
problem, the
director of
student rights
at the MEP,
Gabriela
Valverde, said
that among the
measures this
year is
launching an
advertising
campaing to urge
students to
return to school
after the
vacation.
At the end of
the school day
today, some 1
million students
across the
country start
their two weeks
mid-year school
break.
The scholl year
in Costa Rica
starts in
February and end
in December. |
