Favourable Expectations of Employment in Panama

PANAMA - The labor market in Panama shows positive for the third quarter of 2010 with possibilities of increase work force in the business sector, informed expert sources.

According to consultation institution, Manpower, a survey made of 620 companies in the country revealed that 22 percent expect an increase in staff, 72 dismissed changes and only six of every hundred considered that there will be a reduction of employees.

Eric Quesada, regional director of the Centroamerica y República Dominicana company placed only 16 percent the Net Tendency of Employment for the whole country with values above this average for the province of Panama (25 percent).

Meanwhile in Colón this indicator registers as 11 percent and in the western region (Chiriqui y Bocas del Toro) this indicator was six percent, while in the central region (Cocle, Veraguas, Los Santos and Herrera) the value was one percent.

Quesada also told the press that the study was made by sectors with bigger dynamism in Transportation and Communications (25 percent) Business and Services (18 percent) and Manufactured goods (11 percent).

For construction, agriculture, fishing and mining the balance is positive although a reduction ranges between three and 16 percent as referred to the previous quarter.

The survey indicates an error margin of 3.4 percent for Panama.
