Summit Begins In Panama
PANAMA - Panamanian President Ricardo
Martinelli and his South Korean counterpart
Lee Myung-bak Tuesday inaugurated a four-day
summit of the Central American Integration
System (SICA) and South Korea.
"Our ties with Korea are important in this
context because they allow boosting all the
aspects of all the Central American
countries towards an Asian market, which is
a market of consumption and investment,"
Martinelli said during his inauguration
speech.
Martinelli also mentioned the economic and
technology development of South Korea in
recent years and stressed the need of making
the ties closer between Central America and
South Korea.
"We have to learn from Korea. We need the
Korean technology and investment,"
Martinelli said.
Meanwhile, Lee Myung-bak made official the
entrance of South Korea to the SICA as
extra-regional observer and stressed the
need to reinforce the friendship ties
between his country and Central America.
Earlier in the day, Martinelli met with Lee
and they witnessed the signing of a
technical and scientific cooperation
agreement. |
