OIJ Director Criticizes Investigative Role Of  Immigration Police

Jorge Rojas, the director of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) criticized the new immigration law that gives the Policía Profesional de Migración (immigration police) powers to investigate cases of trafficking of persons.

The director emphasized that only the Judicial Police, that is the OIJ, should have the task of carrying out investigations and not the immigration police, thus creating a "paralell" police body and create a police under political control with the power to investigate.

Rojas added that accepting the law as it is, is putting into the hands of politicians sensitive investigations.
