Risk Alert in Colombian
Presidential Elections
BOGOTA - Political intervention and armed
coercion are the main risk factors for the
coming presidential elections in Colombia,
warmed an Observation Voting Mission (OVM).
The organization not only denied that, to a
lesser extent, the possibility of electoral
fraud and illegal financial backing of
companies where there are only 9 days left
for elections on May 30.
According to OVN Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo,
Choco, Cordoba and Antioquia are the
provinces with a greater risk of altering
public order for the elections.
Cases such as that of governor of Valle del
Cauca disqualified by the Attorney General
for political participation is proof of the
risk in the presidential elections,
explained the mission.
OVM also charged that there is enough proof
that demonstrates political participations
by other governors and still no action has
been taken.
In relation to election fraud the
organization indicated that now there is
risk that the delegates that were not
changed that "irregularities were allowed in
the past legislative elections.
OVM defines itself as a platform of
organizations of civilian society,
independent of the government, political
parties and private interests promoting the
right of all citizens to participate in the
conformation, exercise and control of
political power. |
