Presidenta
Chinchilla
reiterated on
Saturday her
intention to
exercise her
right of the
"veto" the
proposed salary
increase
legislators are
looking to vote
for themselves.
Legislators of
the PAC sat in
their "curules"
with their
mouths
taped in
opposition of
the proposed
salary hike
Chinchilla said
on Friday that
she wants to
know how
legislators will
finance the pay
hike and will
veto the bill is
the fail to
prove to her
that they can
cover the added
cost within the
budget of the
Legislature.
The Presidenta
is adamant that
she will not
accept that the
pay hike be
financed by
increasing
taxes.
"what I can
guarantee to
Costa Ricans
will not be by
way of more
taxes", said
Chinchilla.
The polemic pay
hike is to go
before the
Legislative
Assembly again
today. However,
its future is
cloudy as over
the last few
days a number of
legislators have
jumped on the
Partido Acción
Cuidadana (PAC)
party in voting
against the
passing of the
bill.
Legislators like
Luis Fishman and
Gloria Berejano
of the PUSC
party have found
their
conscience,
announcing
publicly
changing their
vote to "no",
explaining that
the decision
follows
discussion with
friend, family
and social
groups.
