Destabilization Denounced in Bolivia

LA PAZ - Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera denounced that recent urban teachers'' demonstrations in La Paz are local and aimed at destabilizing the country.

In a press conference on Saturday, Garcia said the protests demanding a salary hike over the government-announced five percent this year might become the operational arm of a civilian group in favour of the opposition.

Referring to the differences between rank and file professors and some of their leaders, Garcia said that real teachers are those who want to see their pupils in the classroom.

In his opinion, the participants in these unjustified demonstrations are similar to those who unsuccessfully took the streets to overthrow the government of Evo Morales in August-September 2008.
