Criminal Gang Linked to
Guatemala Police
GUATEMALA - The gang responsible for the
assassination of Guatemalan lawyer Rodrigo
Rosenberg in 2009 was linked to over 20
members of the National Civil Police (PNC),
according to Prensa Libre paper.
The daily published an article on
investigations by the Public Ministry and
the International Commission against
Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) on the crime
committed on May 10, 2009, which later
unleashed a political crisis.
During the investigations, cell phones and
calls by those accused were analyzed. In
addition, there are videos on the criminal
behaviour of the gang's members, as well as
training on the use of firearms, it added.
Each member had over 500 contacts in their
phones, and there names such as
Commissioner, Commissioner 2, Investigator,
among others.
The still unfinished inquiries corroborate
links between the gang and members of the
Government Ministry, and the police
divisions of Criminal Investigation and
Anti-narcotics Analysis and Information, the
source added.
Investigators believe such contacts allowed
them act with impunity while kidnapping,
murdering, and stealing drugs, money and
arms, it sustained. |
