AH1N1 In Costa
Rica Now
Attacking
Indigenous And
Children
The ministerio
de Salud (Health
ministry) is
concerned of a
possible
outbreak of the
AH1N1 flu virus
among indigenous
communities, a
group that was
not affected by
the first wave
of the killer
flu last year.
The ministra de
Salud, María
Luisa Ávila,
explains that
four children
are currently in
the Hospital
Nacional de
Niños
(Children's
Hospital) in San
José, one in
serious
condition.
Ávila said the
worrisome is
that this group
was not affected
in the past.
The growth in
cases are in
Oreamuno de
Cartago, Pavas
and Los Chiles.
The ministra
added that they
are looking into
why the AH1N1 is
now attacking
the indigenous
and children,
something that
it did not do
before.
Although
confirmation is
waiting, the
ministerio de
Salud suspects
that the death
of a child in
remote are of
Talamanca could
be from the
AH1N1.
In that case,
