Salary Hike Bill
The salary hike
voted upon
themselves by
legislators on
Monday also
raised the
pensions of
former
president, who
today receive a
¢1.500 million
colones monthly,
but will receive
¢4.3 million if
the bill passes
second reading
and presidenta
Chinchilla not
exercising her
right to veto.
The payment to
the
ex-presidents is
the same
received by
legislators.
Former
president, Luis
Monge Álvarez
(1986-1990),
Rafael Angel
Calderón (1990 -
1994), José
María Figueres
Olsen
(1994-1998),
Miguel Angel
Rodríguez
(1998-2002),
Abel Pacheco
(2002-2006) and
Oscar Arias
(2006-2010), all
qualify for the
pension.
Calderón is
currently
appealing his
five conviction
for corruption
in the
Caja-Fischel
case, Rodríguez
is in the middle
of a trial, also
for corruption,
in the
ICE-Alcatel
case, while
Figueres Olsen,
living in
Switzerland, has
refused to
return to Costa
Rica to answer
questions of
legislators on
his receiving
payment for
consulting fees
from Alcatel. |
