Power Company
Takes
Responsibility
For Damage By
Lightning Of
Household
Appliances
When lightning
strikes, your
household
appliances,
stereo,
television and
computer
equipment are
all in danger of
being damaged by
a surge or
spikes in
electricity.
The "rayería"
has always been
a problem in
Costa Rica,
prompting the
practice of
disconnecting
any electrical
appliance when
not in use.
However, for
many that is not
possible or just
inconvenient.
So what do you
do when you have
an appliance or
electrical
component
damaged by
lightning?
The Compañía
Nacional de
Fuerza y Luz (CNFL),
a division of
the Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad
(ICE), says it
will make good
for damages
caused from
power surges and
spikes.
The CNFL will
take complaints
from its
customers online
at
www.cnfl.go.cr
and investigate.
The company says
that if it is
found that the
damage was due
to its system,
it will pay for
the damage.
However, the
company says
that much of the
damage reported
to them is due
to negligence of
the customer and
not caused by
its network. |
