ICE Offers
Morose Customers
Payment
Arrangements
Since the
beginning of the
year, the
Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad
(ICE) has been
promoting its
new 3G service
and package
deals for upper
end 3G
telephones on a
payment plan
over 12, 24 and
36 months.
However, it has
found that some
of its customers
have gotten over
their head and
cannot pay and
has instituted a
new policy
requiring new
customers who
want to sign up
on one of the
packages to
provide an "orden
patronal" and
proof of salary.
For existing
customers who
cannot afford
the service and
have had their
service cut, ICE
is bending
overbackwards to
help them out.
The Institución
said it will
restore service
if the customer
brings in a "fiador"
(guarantor) that
will assume at
least 80% of the
outstanding
debt.
In addition, to
help morose
customers not
get into further
debt, ICE will
allow to switch
over to the "prepago"
(prepaid)
service, but
only after they
have come to
some arrangement
for the back
charges.
ICE's policy is
cut service
three days
following the
due date of the
bill and cancel
the service when
two consecutive
bills go unpaid.
