Colombian Prison Rio Kills 3,
Injures 25
BOGOTA - Three prisoners were killed and 25
others injured in a riot in La Modelo Prison
in the Colombian capital Bogota, officials
said Wednesday.
Colonel Carlos Barragan, director of the
National Institute of Prisons, said the riot
was caused by news of an anti-drug
operation.
The inmates reacted violently, said the
director. They set mattresses on fire and
threw them at the guards.
The 25 injured were seriously burnt and
suffered suffocation symptoms, he said.
Four guards were also injured and two of
them were under observation, he added.
Barragan said the situation was put under
control. |
