Guanacaste
Continues On
Yellow Alert
The start of the
rainy season
this year has
come with a bang
and the worst if
being lived in
Guanacaste, which
has been
inundated with
heavy rains and
flooding along
the Pacific
coast.
The weather
conditions have
hammered in the
Nicoya Peninsula
and other
coastal areas
north.
The Comisión
Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE)
has issued a
yellow alert for
the area that
includes Santa
Cruz and
Nandayure, which
means people
should be on
alert.
The heavy rains
falling on
Guanacaste has
so far resulted
in the damage to
17 bridges, 30
roads (rural and
national) and
sewer systems.
An Inside Costa
Rica reader from
Ocotal reports
that the rain
has been
intermittent
from light to
heavy at times,
but constant and
the waves are a
concern. Power
outages and
cable
television,
affecting
internet
connections,
have plagued the
area all week.
The CNE reports
at least 260
people are being
housed in seven
temporary
shelters in the
Península de
Nicoya. In
Samara, the
power is out in
many areas.
