New Regulations
For Recruiting
Court Judges
Many blame the
country's judges
for the
insecurity faced
today, as judges
routinely let go
on bail suspects
that should
remain locked up
while the
Fiscalía
continues its
investigation.
In other cases,
allegations of
corruption and
other social
issues have
plagued the
judicial system.
The root of the
problem has been
the system for
recruiting
judges. But that
all changes with
the approval by
the Consejo de
la Judicatura of
new regulations
for such.
Now, potential
judges have to
declare if they
have any
romantic ties
(girlfriend,
boyfriend, wife,
husband, etc) to
anyone within
the Poder
Judicial
(Judicial
system).
In addition,
potential judges
must declare if
they have a
criminal
history,
including cases
of sexual
harassment,
domestic
violence and
judicial
collections.
The new
regulations also
require
potential judges
to declare if
they have any
personal
business that
could conflict
of interest
while working as
a judge.
The information
provided by
judges will be
strictly kept in
confidence,
using a
cross-check
system, to
manage the
information,
that will
include
statistics on
their
professional
performance. |
