Autopistas Rules Out Opening Tolls When It Closes The San José - Caldera

More than one driver has asked the same question, why does Autopistas del Sol charge tolls when they close the San José - caldera, which in many cases involves paying double tolls when one decides to turn around.

The closure of the highway for more than tow hours earlier this week did not close the toll booths at Atenas or Orotina.

Drivers interviewed expressed that it is not right that they have to pay tolls to sit on the highway, nor that they have to pay again if they decide to turn back.

However, Autopistas de Sol, ruled out the possibility of opening the toll booths.

Claudio Pacheco, speaking on behalf of Autopistas, said that the concessionaire provides information at all times on the conditions of the road by way of its electronic information signs and it is up to each individual driver if he or she wants to continue or not.

Pacheco added that more closures - complete and partial - will be made to ensure public safety from falling rocks and mudslides.
