San José - Caldera Fully Open

The autopista San José - Caldera yesterday afternoon was fully open and free of debris from falling rocks and mudslides occurring during the previous days of heavy rain.

Autopistas del Sol, the road concessionaire, had closed the autopista for a couple of hours on Wednesday when mudslides and falling rock between kilometres 45 and 47 of the new highway placed drivers at risk.

The road was re-opened, with 'paso regulado' by noon on Wednesday as word crews continued the clean up and retention of the gigantic rocks that had made their way onto the lanes of the autopista.

Last night (Friday) Inside Costa Rica took a run of the highway from San José to Orotina and back and found only a lane closed in the area of kilometre 45, to avoid vehicles being hit in the event of falling rocks.

For road information, Autopistas del Sol has set up the line 2588 4040 to provide road information on a 24/7 basis..
