Nicaraguan
Mothers In Costa
Rica Celebrated
Mother's Day
Sunday was
Mother's Day in
Nicaragua. And
to celebrate the
day, thousands
of Nicaraguan
mothers in Costa
Rica gathered in
downtown San
José to
celebrate the
day in an event
sponsored by the
Nicaraguan
embassy in San
José.

This is the
third
consecutive year
that the embassy
has organized
the event, in an
effort to bring
together all the
Nicaraguan
mothers, who for
differing
reasons are in
Costa Rica on
this special
day.
Mariachis
playing and
typical
Nicaraguan food
was part of the
celebration,
where many of
the mothers
became little
girls with a
stick hitting a
piñata for the
candy and a
prize of ¢10.000
colones.
May 30 is
Mother's Day in
Nicaragua, the
date chosen by
President
Anastasio Somoza
García because
it was the
birthday of
Casimira Sacasa,
the mother of
his wife. The
date has since
been celebrated
from the first
years of the
1940's.
Editor's note:
Mother's Day in
Costa Rica is
August 15th. |
