Costa Rica Accuses Nicaragua Of Continuing Invading The Restricted Area Of the Isla Calero

When it was almost forgotten about by many, Costa Rica has revived the issue of the Nicaraguan invasion of Costa Rican territory in the area of Isla Calero, in the border between the two countries.

This past week Costa Rica filed a compliance report to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, where it took the opportunity to file a complaint against Nicaragua and the permissive attitude and constant comings and goings by civilians in the restricted area, which violates the provisions issued by the court on March 8 of this year.

Carlos Roverssi, Costa Rica's Deputy Foreign Minister, explained what is happening in the area of dispute is mainly by young Sandinista activists.

Roverssi said that they (Foreign Ministry) are discussing legal measures with the aim of enforcement, emphasizing the report is only for information purposes only.

Roverssi said international and national consultants are currently working to define which actions will be taken to enforce the impediment to entering the restricted area.

The vice chancellor said he did not take into account the possibility that these new actions further aggravate the relations between both countries.

In the opinion of Roverssi and many in the Foreign ministry believe Nicaragua maintains an attitude of constant provocation.

The report and complaint was filed this Friday by Costa Rica's ambassador in The Hague, Jorge Urbina.
