FROM
NICARAGUA
Nicaragua
Welcomes
The
Hague
Ruling
Managua
-
Nicaragua
welcomed
the
ruling
of the
International
Court of
Justice
in The
Hague
regarding
Costa
Rica's
claims
against
it.
The ICJ
overturned
Costa
Rica's
demand
for
Nicaragua
to stop
dredging
the San
Juan
River,
in their
common
border,
and
ordered
the two
countries
to
refrain
from
sending
military
or civil
personnel
to the
disputed
area
until
the
court
finally
settles
the
dispute,
among
other
decisions.
The
ruling
is the
result
of
national
unity
around
this
issue
and of
President
Daniel
Ortega's
right
leadership,
said
Nicaraguan
Deputy
Foreign
Minister
Valdrack
Jaentschke.
Historian,
analyst
Aldo
Diaz
Lacayo
agreed
and
described
the ICJ
ruling
as
another
triumph
of the
right
international
policy
of the
Nicaraguan
president,
who acts
in line
with the
law,
based on
respect
and
harmony
among
nations.
Former
Foreign
Minister
and
Catholic
priest,
Father
Miguel
D'Escoto
described
the ICJ
ruling
as a
triumph
of
justice
that
forces
Costa
Rica to
give up
its
warmongering
attitude
and seek
harmony
with
Nicaragua.
"Costa
Rica
overreacts
and
tells
lies to
sow fear
in its
own
people
towards
Nicaragua
and go
on with
its
military
build-up,"
said
D'Escoto,
who
presided
over the
UN
General
Assembly
in June
2008-
September
2009.
International
law
expert
Mauricio
Herdocia
said
that
this is
a bright
opportunity
to turn
this
ruling
into the
"modus
vivendi"
between
the two
countries
while
the
final
ICJ
ruling
comes in
four or
five
years.
