Argentina's Austal
Airline Pilots Suspend
Strike
Pilots of Argentina's
Austral airline Sunday
suspended a two-day
strike ahead of Monday
talks with airline
directives that will
also be attended by the
country's labor
minister, said the
Airline Aviators' Union
(UALA).
The airline has resumed
its delayed flight
operations after the
strike which started on
Friday, said UALA.
Many flights were
re-programmed due to ash
clouds over many
Argentine provinces amid
the recent eruption of
the Chaiten volcano in
Chile, it said.
UALA launched a strike
in protest of a possible
merger of Austral and
Aerolineas Argentinas,
the biggest airline in
the country. The merger
would lead to job cuts,
threatening the
interests of the union
members, it said.
It was estimated that
some 4,000 passengers on
the internal flights
were affected in the
wake of the strike.
