Venezuela Referendum Campaign
Caracas - Caravans by supporters of Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez, and marches by his adversaries mark the end Friday of the
campaign over the constitutional referendum that would allow
successive re-election of public posts.
Members of parties allied to the governmental United Socialist Party
of Venezuela (PSUV) will carry out caravans in several cities, to
conclude with a demonstration at the Miraflores Palace, while the
opposition plans a walk almost all over Caracas.
Supporters of the constitutional change have taken the streets to
explain the reasons of the initiative which, if approved, would end
with the limited term for the president, deputies, governors, and
mayors.
For Chavez and the PSUV, it is clear the victory at the polls would
be possible were traditionally high abstentionism rate defeated.
Meanwhile, the Bolivarian National Armed Force will conclude the
activation of the 140,000 officers that will watch over security on
Sunday, as well as the distribution of the necessary material,
including voting machines and fingerprint readers.
Sources from the National Electoral Council informed part of the 98
international observers to attend the poll have arrived already. |
