Government Requires
Bullfighters To Be
Insured
The government is
requiring that all
"toreros" who take part
in the traditional
annual bullfights in
Costa Rica be covered by
an insurance policy. The
executive order -
No.34489-S-MSP-G - was
published yesterday in
La Gaceta and signed by
the ministros de Salud,
Seguridad Pública and de
Gobernación y Policía.
What the order says is
that all those who enter
the ring to take part in
the improvised
bullfights, being
amateur or professional,
must be covered by an
insurance policy issued
by the state insurance
monopoly, the nstituto
Nacional de Seguros
INS).
The insurance policy is
to cover all medical
expenses, health and
rehabilitation be it at
a private or public
hospital.
Roberto Camacho, the
manager of BGL
Consultores
Internacionales Inc, the
firm that made an
enormous investment last
year in building the
Zapote (San José) bull
ring says that he is in
agreement with the order
but is asking the
government to first
enforce the regulation
on smaller rings in the
towns before hitting on
San José, which counts
with a modern and secure
bull ring.
The regulation force the
owners of the bull rings
and/or promoters to
ensure that the
participants are
insured.
However, providing such
insurance may prove to
be difficult as the INS
does not currently offer
any such policy,
according to Camacho,
who is hopeful that the
state insurer come up
with a policy soon at is
jeopardizes the upcoming
events. |
