Holiday Vacation Period
Begins Today
Beginning at the close
of business toda,
232.000 employees of the
central government and
several thousands of
government agencies and
institutions will be on
vacation.
Any business to be done
with the government and
many of its agencies
will have to wait until
the first or second week
in January, when workers
get back to work.
For example, workers of
the Tribunal Supremo de
Elecciones will back on
Jan 2, however,
administrative workers
of the Instituto
Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE) get
back on January 3.
Workers of the
Contraloría General de
la República, for
instance, do not get
back to their desks
until January 7.
ICE agencies that handle
telephone connections
will be open normal
hours except for
Christmas Day, News
Years Day and Sundays.
Banks will be operating
on holiday hours as
well.
The Banco Nacional will
be open normal hours
until December 24, close
December 25, 30, 31 and
January 1 and open
normal normal hours for
December 26 to 29. The
Banco de Costa Rica will
only be closed on
December 25 and 31 and
January 1. The private
banks will follow
similar opening and
closing hours, best
check with your
individual bank and
branch.
Retail stores will all
have their own hours of
opening and closing,
some staying open on
Christmas day, while
others like Pricesmart
will be closed. For the
most part, retail stores
will be open on January
1.
The recommendation is
that before heading out
to an appointment with a
doctor, lawyer, etc.,
store or bank call ahead
first to see if they are
