Chinchilla tours two of Costa Rica’s poorest communities

October 15^th, 2012 – Laura Chinchilla, President of Costa Rica, made a tour to two of the poorest communities in San Jose last week, taking the opportunity to mention the work that her administration has been doing in the areas of housing and education for the poor.

She handed over the facilities of the Jose Albertazzi Professional and Technical High School, in Los Guidos, Desamparados. Here, the President highlighted the importance that the government has placed on technical education, saying she believes this is one of the best strategies that her administration has found to avoid young people dropping out of school.

While at the housing project called Los Olivos, in Ciudadela 25 de Julio, in Hatillo, the President asked citizens not to judge all public officials as corrupt, indicating that problems of corruption are not as rampant as they may appear in the media.

The housing project, which consists of tower condominiums in Hatillo, will be used to relocate 96 families who lived in precarious situations in the area.

The government invested over $6 million dollars in both projects.
