Prepare for more traffic jams on General Canas Highway starting tomorrow

November 14th, 202 (InsideCostaRica.com) Beginning Thursday, five more days of traffic headaches await drivers on the General Canas Highway.

The National Road Council (CONAVI) will begin working on the Bailey bridge on the opposite side of the highway, in the San Jose to Alajuela direction.

On Tuesday, the road was reopened for those travelling in the Alajuela-San Jose direction.

The San Jose – Alajuela bridge we be closed as of 10:00 pm on Thursday. Workers and traffic police will be on the scene directing traffic through a bypass using the opposite bridge.  Drivers will be provided one lane in the Alajuela direction, another in the San Jose direction, while the 3rd lane will be used in both directions, depending on traffic.

The bridges will be completely removed during the weekend, as workers attempt to reach their goal of completing the project by Tuesday.

When the work is completed, the road will have 6 lanes, 3 in each direction.

Authorities recommend the use of alternative routes such as Barreal, in Heredia, Belen, and Route 27 beginning tomorrow until Tuesday.  Authorities also say there will be no school cancelations as a result of the work.
