RITEVE requests 157% price hike for vehicle inspections
November 30th, 2012 (InsideCostaRica.com) The company known as RITEVE, in charge of annual vehicle inspections in Costa Rica, has asked the Public Service Regulating Authority (ARESEP) to approve a 157% increase in rates as of January 1st 2013.
If the request were to be approved, the cost of the inspection for automobiles would go from 9,930 colons to 25,530 colons, an increase of 15,600 colones.
The last time that RITEVE SyC successfully increased rates was in 2004.
This is the 8th time that Riteve has asked ARESEP for an increase in prices, however, in prior cases, the petition has been rejected because there had not been a pricing methodology on which to base the increases.
Should the request be approved, taxis would have to pay 27,540 colons instead of the 10,714 that they currently pay; motorcycles would go from 6,541 colons to 16,810, and heavy vehicles (over 3,500 kg), would go from 13,076 colons to 33,620.
