Sudden downpours could continue for several days

March 22nd, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The surprise downpours of rain that fell yesterday in various parts of Heredia, Alajuela, San Jose, Santa Ana and other parts of the country could be repeated this afternoon and for several days, according to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN).

Meteorologist Gabriela Chinchilla said yesterday’s downpour was caused by an abundance of heat and moisture.

There were also heavy rains yesterday in some parts of Guanacaste and the South Pacific.

Chinchilla said to expect clear skies this morning, but the afternoon could see short, periodic downpours similar to yesterday.

The Red Cross said that as a result of yesterday’s heavy rains, flooding occurred in the Guadalupe neighborhood of Alajuela and a landslide in Atenas near kilometer 48 of route 27.

In Santa Barbara de Heredia, it was reported that a wall of a house had collapsed.
