Expoconstrucción promises affordable housing options

April 19th, 2013 (InsideCostaRica.com) The 2013 Expoconstrucción will take place between Wednesday, April 24th, and Sunday, April 28th, and this year’s focus is on affordable housing options.  Organizers say a wide selection of housing options starting from just 22 million colones (about $44,000) will be on offer this year.

 

Of course, there will also be options for those looking for a little more luxury, with homes and condos priced up to 800 million colones (about $400,000) on offer as well.

 

The event will take place at the Pedregal Events Center, and is the largest event that brings together to the housing and construction industry under one roof.

 

This year, more than 600 booths are expected at the expo, and organizers believe about 35,000 people will attend the event.  In addition to homes and condos, the event will also feature interior design options, as well as new construction machinery and equipment.

 

Rodrigo Altman, president of the organizing committee of the event, said that 12 financial institutions would also be present at the event, offering special financing options in both dollars and colones.  There will also be an auction held in conjunction with the Chamber of Real Estate Brokers.

 

On April 24th, the expo hours on the 24th will be from 4pm to 10pm; and on Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th from 1pm to 10pm.  Admission is completely free during these first three days.

 

On Saturday the 27th the expo will run from 10am to 10pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 8pm.  Admission during the weekend will be 2,000 colones, though admission is waived for children under 12 and senior citizens.

 

Attendees will also be entered into a drawing for $10,000.

    You have to have property or buy a lot. Nothing here in San Jose area affordable for low income. I place that at $700 a month total family income and under. So $44,000 basic house plus property at another $12-18K unless they live way out of the SJ area. There is no way they could afford a mortgage at the almost up to 30% interest rate. Where do I have this wrong??

      I don’t think you have the overall picture wrong–in general the middle class is priced out of the SJ market so lives in rental housing, family-owned houses, and/or on the outskirts–but there are a few ways to chip away at the details. First, while the average income from a job countrywide is around $700, the average is higher in SJ and family income can be higher if there is more than one jobholder in the household. Think more in terms of $1000 or even $1200 a month for families in SJ. Second, although mortgage interest rates are too high, 15% is closer than 30% in dollars. There are also various government programs that can offset some of the costs. Even so, the numbers still don’t work for the average family, and when you add in the rigamarole the banks put you through, buying probably isn’t viable for the average family.

        you are both wrong!! :) ) seriously in my experience the biggest issue in any country is savings. some people no matter how little they are paid save a little every month. some people no matter how much they make will save not a dime and go negative every month on credit cards, just like countries. my father said, if you do not save you only work to pay other people, pay yourself first. if you combine diligent work ethic, savings and creativity. almost anyone anywhere, barring mental or physical defect, can save enough to have a large enough down payment to get an owner to carry a purchase contract at a rate better than a bank rate and own a home. dad’s good advice. i never did not save. i never did not invest savings. i retired at 46 and have nice homes in 3 countries. if the posts on this blog are true about me being an uneducated hateful moron, then if i can do it certainly anyone else can too. nuttin good is easy.

          I agree with both you in in part. No George I do not see you hateful..,

          My brother in Kingwood ,Texas paid off his house in 4 yrs ! since 1980 no mortgage I paid everything off and no mortgage since 1985 and no car payments. This is the way to save and not worry. He retired at 38yrs old as well.

          The Tico’s here at one time before 1985 had the highest ownerships of casa’s of any central American country. They sold their property and houses now well on the way for indebtedness and no ownership.

          To get the house subsidy you have to have a lot , show your in poverty, and about 2 years of paper work and waiting that was 5 yrs ago when my sister in law got money for her house.

            i was being sarcastic, poking fun at the comments directed at me in general by many … i am not sure but the only thing i think i can recall you referring to me was “offensive”. but more to the point, i was making fun at people that think there snide insinuations, dumb azz suggestions, and direct insults are any way causing the hurt or shame they are intended to elicit.
