RECOPE requests another significant hike in gasoline prices

June 15th, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) The Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) is seeking another significant hike in the price of gasoline in its latest request to the regulator ARESEP.

 

RECOPE is seeking an increase of ¢43 per liter for premium and ¢37 per liter for regular gasoline.  Diesel would see a reduction of one colon per liter.  The increases, if approved, would take effect for July.

 

RECOPE said its request was the result of price increases in the international market.

 

If approved, premium (“super”) gasoline would increase from ¢642/liter to ¢685/liter (about $4.89 per gallon) while regular would increase from ¢610/liter to ¢647/liter (about $4.62 per gallon).

 

The most recent increase in gasoline prices took effect three weeks ago on May 25th, when super gasoline increased by ¢43/liter and regular increased by ¢35/liter.

 

Regulator ARESEP has until the end of the month to approve or deny RECOPE’s request.

    What happened to all the price reductions to coincide with the world market decreases of last year? Now, with world prices still below what they were, RECOPE wants to use price increases as there excuse for increases. Really?

    I believe they set gasoline prices scientifically, using the Ouiji Board.

    The reason RECOPE wants the increase is it cannot afford to pay it over inflated salieries and bonus. First fire the top 100 officials, do not pay any one of the RECOPE people that is not working, cut all benefits and audit all employes. The price of gas will drop. The ones who protest send them to hard labor, maybe cutting a new road to Panama?
