June 22nd, 2015 (InsideCostaRica.com) A tornado struck in Sierpe de Osa on Saturday, tearing the roofs from some 15 homes and downing trees.
The damaged homes are located on the banks of the Sierpe River. Many of the homes were also flooded as a result of heavy rains that accompanied the storm.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
Though rare in Costa Rica, tornados do occasionally occur. A May 2014 tornado ripped roofs from homes, toppled trees and downed power lines in Escazu. In 2013, tornados struck near Naranjo, Alajuela and Golfito.
