Police officers involved in shooting incident outside home of Costa Rican president lose their jobs

August 10^th, 2015 (ICR News) Four police officers that were involved in a July 2014 shooting incident outside the condominium of Costa Rica president Luis Guillermo Solis have been fired from their jobs without benefits.

The former officers, who still face criminal charges, are alleged by prosecutors to have fabricated a story in which they claim they came under fire from two men on a motorcycle while guarding the home of the president.

Prosecutors believe instead that one of the officers accidentally discharged his firearm, striking another officer in the leg.

Prosecutors base their assertion on evidence that would suggest that the shot was fired from within the police vehicle.

The former officers face criminal charges of fabricating a crime scene and making false official statements.  A trial date had originally been set for July 20^th, but has since been delayed.
