Two suspects engage in moving shootout on Route 27 while wearing OIJ body armor

August 21^st, 2015 (ICR News) Police were able to arrest two suspects who were allegedly engaging in a shootout with each other while both drove down Route 27 in separate vehicles on Saturday morning, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

After the moving shootout, both suspects exited the freeway and abandoned the vehicles in which they were traveling.  One suspect fled into a field while another suspect fled in a taxi, according to authorities.

A police helicopter however responded to the scene and was able to track both suspects until their arrest.

Police confiscated two firearms from the suspects as well as two sets of body armor, both bearing the patch of the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).

One of the suspects, identified by the last names Cordero Salas, has four previous arrests for aggravated robbery, illegal possession of weapons, and murder.

The second suspect has been arrested 13 times in the past, including on weapons charges, grand theft auto, drug-related offenses, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and receiving stolen property.

Earlier this month, a rush-hour police chase on Route 27 ended near the Forum in Santa Ana when police were forced to shoot and kill a suspect after coming under fire.
