Woman drowns; man remains missing after being swept away by rip current in Quepos

October 26th, 2015 (ICR News) A woman is dead and her male companion remained missing after the pair was swept away by a rip current at Playa Linda, in Savegre de Quepos, Puntarenas Sunday evening.

The female victim was identified as 43-year-old Yamileth Araya Agüero.  Her companion, identified by the last name Martinez, remained missing Sunday night.

The search for Martinez was scheduled to resume Monday morning after being suspended Sunday night due to weather and poor visibility.

Some 60 to 80 people die after succumbing to rip currents in Costa Rica each year, primarily on the country’s Pacific coast.
