Police discover US $369,000 in truck tire at Peñas Blancas border crossing

October 27th, 2015 (ICR News) Agents of Costa Rica’s Drug Control Police (PCD) found US $369,000 hidden in the spare tire of a semi-trailer at the Peñas Blancas border crossing on Monday.

 

The vehicle was carrying a load of mattresses from Honduras, according to the official report.

 

The 31-year-old driver, a Costa Rican man identified by the last name Alfaro, was taken into custody.  The man has no criminal history except a 2012 charge for resisting arrest, according to authorities.

 

Also on Monday, a woman was detained at San Jose’s Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) while attempting to enter the country with US $20,000 hidden in her underclothes.

    Here is an idea, why not buy gold or silver, melt it and pour into forms of tools etc, paint the tools or parts and or cover with liquid rubber ( as in the hammer handles) or pour into hollowed out wooden handles of axes, etc.- I’ll bet I could have fun disguising alot of golden tools….Ok back from the fantasy……
    Question is how do border guards have the time to open all spare tires of all trucks at a border crossing?
    I traveled from Costa Rica all the way to Guatemala with a convoy of 2 tractor trailers full of chatarra ( scrap metal) to take to Guatemala because Guatemala has the only smelting furnace close to CR..
    For all I know the Tico I went with WAS transporting cocaine northward.
    Anyway we weren’t searched for anything in these huge mountains of scrap metal and yet these border guards searched in a spare tire of a truck?
    Something isn’t right here.-I also walked across several borders–back and forth back and forth-between 2 or 3 countries-and no one even seemed to notice me -much less ask for any form of ID.
    Also I drove from CR to Panama ( without even the necessary permissions) and coming back I wasn’t even noticed and had to get out of my car and get their attention to clear me to cross back. THey waved me through and didn’t even glance at my car much less search it. I could have had a trunk full of contraband.
    Isn’t that how it goes….and then we happen to have some silly thing like nail clippers at some point and they get all over us like we are top criminals

    Wait a minute..maybe my mind is slipping but when do they search you when arriving to Costa Rica? They search you in USA when you are leaving and boarding the plane right?
