Details emerge in case of clandestine mass grave discovered Sunday

November 3^rd, 2015 (ICR News) New details are emerging in the case of a clandestine grave where three murder victims were found buried together in a field near the road to Rancho Redondo, Goicoechea on Sunday, including the identity of one of the victims.

The brother of one of the victims was able to identify the remains of 40-year-old married man and father of four, Roy Alexis Acuña Loría, according to the Judicial Investigative Police (OIJ).

Initial reports indicate that Acuña worked as a driver for Plus Papagayo, a tourism company specializing in “day tours” for mostly North American tourists to and from Nicaragua, according to the company’s web site.

The identities of the two other victims, both men, have yet to be determined.

Robbery has also apparently been ruled out as a motive, as cash carried by one of the victims remained in his pocket and the other victims were buried with watches and jewelry of value still on their bodies.

Contrary to initial reports, the victims were clothed, though two of the victims’ pants were pulled down below the waste, which authorities believe was the result of their bodies having been dragged into the grave.

Authorities believe that all three men were killed execution style at the scene, and that the 6-feet deep grave had actually been dug and prepared at least one day prior.

Some 30 9mm bullet casings were recovered from the scene.  All of the victims had been shot multiple times in the head and chest.

Lime or caustic soda had also been added to the grave to accelerate decomposition of the remains, according to forensic investigators.  Authorities believe that the victims had been killed only 18 to 30 hours prior to the discovery.

Not far from the scene authorities also discovered a burned-out Mitsubishi Montero SUV that had been reported stolen on October 1^st.

Authorities are now operating on the hypothesis that the killings are related to organized crime, and were planned well in advance.
