Dutch expats killed in Costa Rica triple murder

January 5th, 2016 (ICR News) A Dutch couple and a Nicaraguan workman were found murdered at a 400 hectare cooperate estate known as Ganadera La Flecha in Sardinal de Puntarenas, near Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast, on Monday afternoon

 

The bodies of the Dutch couple, identified by police as Johan and Zita Snelderth Taver, as well as that of the Nicaraguan workman, identified as Rivar Avenec Montalbán were in an advanced state of decomposition and had their hands bound, according to authorities.

 

Investigators were unable to immediately determine their causes of death due to the advanced state of decomposition of the remains, which were discovered on Monday by another workman who had just returned to the estate after spending the holidays in Nicaragua.

 

Authorities believe that the victims had been dead for approximately one week, based on the state of the remains.

 

Authorities said that items of value, including televisions, electronics and a vehicle were not stolen from the home, though the inside of the residence appeared to be disheveled.

 

According to its web site, Ganadera La Flecha is a cooperative estate consisting of residential lots and farmland, owned in cooperative of about 340 member-owners who live mostly in the Netherlands and Belgium.

 

Authorities have not identified any suspects or motive in the crime.

        You are, sadly, correct. No use complaining about how the laws are soft on criminals here, the system is lax, broken, however you want to describe it and will NEVER be fixed. It is based on the Costa Rican’s being soft babies. Mommy lovers.

    This has become the norm here. Someone on a farm or isolated property found dead every month or so. Sad thing is the Murderer hardly ever caught and if caught spends what a couple years in prison.

    Immediately the name of the “Crooked fat Dutchman” Ivo Henfling from “Go Dutch Realty” comes to mind. He is known to have developed and built homes in an area of Atenas on top of the old town dump and sold to unsuspecting foreigners.

    Maybe the killers were looking for him? However he was last known to hide out in Escazu.

    They will not find anyone why, it costs money unless searching for the thieves has financial profit for the CR government this story will be bury deep and soon cold/dead file case almost immediately, I said it once I will say it again stay away from this sewer of a country, CR government top ten most corrupt governments on planet earth.
    If you come to this country and died the only person or persons that will carry the burden is the victim’s family expenses grief and no case solutions.
    You have an excellent chance as a tourists to die in CR, Ticos think all tourists are rich no matter what.

      You obviously have no idea, They were very hard working people, trying to protect their investment for their retirement. They were the ones that were schemed 10 years ago. They emigrated to C.R. to make the best of it. Absolutely no swindlers. Shame on you!

        One has nothing to do with the other. I’m sure they were nice people and didn’t deserve to die the way they did; no-one does.
        But it remains that there were 340 Dutch “investors” who likely never set foot on the place and have gotten no return on their investment. In the 1990′s there were several “Teak Investment” schemes running alongside “The Brothers”. “The Cuban”, etc.
